MINDEN BARRACKS, Penang

Welcome!

Minden Barracks is a place which can only be in our memories now; held dear by many who were associated with them during the sixties and early seventies - especially those who went to school there! Also the new mothers who will remember the Army hospital, pictured above.

They were situated in the foothills on the eastern side of Penang island and served as the home of the Australian battalions whilst in Malaya. They also served as headquarters for KOYLI and various other regiments and battalions of the British, RAF and Army during the latter forties from the Malayan Emergency and Confrontation, until 1971. More information is available on the Background page.

I have found that available recorded information on the Barracks is minimal and therefore ahve established this site in an attempt to fill a void, with particular emphasis on the schooling.

How you can help

Through your direct input and my ongoing research, this site will continue to grow. I believe it is important that it does, so this era will not be forgotten especially by those whose lives have been directly influenced by contact with the Barracks.

Any contributions you can make by way of factual information and photographs would be most welcome.
